OUR STORY:

We are a friendly, Independent, Fundamental Baptist Church of the Old Gospel.  Heritage Baptist Church was organized in January, 1988 as a mission under the Baptist Missionary Association of America in Little Rock, Arkansas.  Pastor James Crews started the church as a Missionary Church Planter and served as its Pastor for 17 years. The Church grew steadily under his leadership.  In  April of 1989 property was purchased and a building was erected in Southeast Portland in a fast growing area of the city. The Church graduated from Mission status officially to a New Testament Independent Baptist Church in October, 1994.

Pastor J. Sam Herd is the current pastor at Heritage.  Pastor Herd was ordained in 1958 after serving a number of years in the area of Youth Ministries and Music Ministries.  He has served as pastor of a number of churches in California.  He and his wife Dolores have six grown children.  One son, Jim, is pastor of Community Baptist Church in Dixon, Montana.

 OUR PURPOSE:

 To Win The Lost

            Heritage Baptist is a missions-minded Church.  We support missionaries, both at home and foreign and seek to establish ministries around the world.  Under former Pastor Crews, the Church has trained and sent out a number of  Church Planters to establish mission churches in needy areas.  Pastor Crews is currently starting a mission work in Post Falls, Idaho.

 To Teach And Preach The Bible, The Word Of God

             We emphasize the Bible to be the only rule of faith and practice for Christians in all matters of life.  Jesus Christ is our Supreme Head.  A dynamic preaching and teaching ministry will produce happy, fulfilled and victorious Christians.

 We Exalt The Home, The Church, and Our Nation 

            God instituted the home and the church and civil government for His glory and our well-being.  The Home is the center and foundation of society.  The Church, established by Jesus Christ Himself, is the place of worship, fellowship with other Christians, and a place to meet with God.  The Civil Government, established by God, is designed to maintain law and order among men.  We support our government as long as it follows the laws and principles God has established.  “Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” Our Church is family-oriented and Christ exalting.
